President Buhari’s Visit to Paris

 

STATEMENT ON VISIT OF PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI TO FRANCE FOR THE PARIS PEACE FORUM

The Embassy of Nigeria in Paris, France had the honour to host President Muhammadu Buhari, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, on his visit to France from 9-14 November, 2018.

President Buhari visited France at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron to participate in the first edition of the Paris Peace Forum, along with over 60 other world leaders who were also invited to the event.

The Paris Peace Forum is a new annual event based on a simple idea that international cooperation is key to tackling global challenges and ensuring durable peace. It will also offer a platform for proffering solutions to international challenges.

The inaugural Paris Peace Forum had in attendance, several leading actors in global governance, including Heads of State and Governments, Heads of International Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations, Foundations, Corporate Chief Executives, experts, scholars, journalists, trade union leaders, heads of religious groups, influential personalities and private citizens.

Following the opening plenary session of the Paris Peace Forum, President Buhari delivered a paper on Anti-Corruption and Illicit Financial Flows at the Masterclass session of the Forum, which was attended by the leaders of Portugal and Colombia and an audience of 250 international students in France.

President Buhari’s other engagements during the visit to France included attending a dinner at the Musee d’Orsay and lunch at the Elysee Palace, hosted by the French President for Heads of State and Government.

Also, in furtherance to the President’s concern for the welfare of Nigerians in the Diaspora, His Excellency held an interactive session with the Nigerian community in France comprising of Entrepreneurs, Intellectuals, Students, and other groups.
